Jamming For Dummies with Beth Amphetamine & Meanie Baby

Saturday, October 13, 2012

3:30 – 5:30 pm

D’Lite House, 18 Chicago Avenue, Oak Park, IL 60302

Open to men & women 18+ with an Intermediate* or better skill level.

All levels are welcome to observe off-skates for half price — $10 cash at the door.

Cost:  $20

This clinic will help even the most timid skaters learn to move quickly on their feet and get through those pesky packs and scrum starts.  You’ll learn tricks of the trade that are simple but effective in getting around a skilled blocker or big wall.  This clinic can be especially helpful to those blockers that don’t think of themselves as jammers because this class will give you the skills to get into the mind of a jammer.

Bring skates, full gear, and a refillable water bottle.  If you are just viewing, you may wish to bring a notebook and pen.

*Intermediate = You’ve skated for at least 12 weeks, are confident and stable on your skates, can safely work in tight pack situations and have the endurance to manage sustained, speedy drills.

Lucinda “Beth Amphetamine” Scharbach started playing roller derby in 2005, has been a Manic Attacker since 2007 and a strong jammer for the Windy City All Stars from 2008-2011.  Beth is a well-known trainer and leader in the derby community and continues to be an influence with her agile moves and amazing derby skills, not to mention her warm and charming personality.

Jay “Meanie Baby” Fancher started out with Derby Lite in 2009.  Within months, she decided to get certified to be a Derby Lite Instructor.  In March 2011, she tried out and made the Windy City Rollers and a few months later was drafted to the Manic Attackers, with whom she currently skates during the home season.  She has also been skating as a blocker and jammer with WCR’s new travel C team, The Third Coast, this summer.

DAY 2:   Saturday  August 25, 2012      9:00 am – 10:45 am

FINAL DAY:  Saturday September 8, 2012   9:00 am – 10:45 am

Whether you had a baby three days or 30 years ago, learn to get your pre-pregnancy midsection back! During pregnancy, your stomach muscles split, which is called a diastasis.  These split muscles DO NOT come back together on their own.

A diastasis is what causes the not flat, slightly protruding, not-quite-right look of your tummy, a thicker waistline, back problems, and even belly button issues! Learn how to fuse these muscles back together (or keep splitting to a minimum during pregnanc), tone specific abdominal, postural, and glute muscles, correct your posture, and shrink your waistline. Specifically and uniquely designed abdominal workouts combined with upper and lower body sculpting exercises will be incorporated. Great for Pregnant women as well as Pre & Postnatal women.

STABILITY CLINIC WITH FLAVA DAVE,  3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14th

Saturday April 14th 3:30-5:30pm at D’Lite House (The ARC, 18 Chicago Ave., Oak Park, IL). Fee is $18.

THIS IS A CO-OP CLINIC.  All skaters, male & female, members & refs, active & inactive, from all local leagues, ages 9 and up welcome!

Attend this very popular practice with hockey player and former Windy City Coach Flava Dave. This clinic covers the basics of good form for contact and stability. You will learn how to improve your stance, posture, and balance – all while enjoying some good old-fashioned light contact!

The class will begin off-skates with stance & balance demonstrations and one-on-one evaluation. From there we will learn about balance transfer and weight shift to better accommodate contact. The rest of the practice is on-skates, and repeats these basic lessons in various drills.

This is a multi-level class and is appropriate for everyone, including skaters who’ve had this class with Dave in the past.

LEAPIN’ LIZARDS WITH KARMAGEDDON,  9 to 11 a.m. Sunday,  March 31st

Saturday March 31, 2012

9-11 am, Fee $18

D’Lite House, 18 Chicago Ave., Oak Park IL 60302

THIS IS A CO-OP CLINIC.  Open to all skaters, male & female, active & inactive, members & refs, of all local leagues.

Do you dream of leaping thru the air on your skates, gracefully landing without a wobble or worry? Do you wish that you had more confidence when both skates are off the ground at the same time? Do you just want to jump for joy and aren’t quite sure how to make that happen? THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!

In two hours, Leapin’ Lizards will give you the tools to begin your journey to hopping excellence.  We’ll do some drills off-skates to prepare your mind and body for the same skills on-skates, and then spend 90 minutes working on the basics of hopping and leaping from one foot to the other, and landing with confidence and stability.  The drill structure is a natural progression, and each skater will work to the best of her ability and proceed at her own pace within the each drill.

I recommend coming to this practice with a personal goal; it’s more satisfying to accomplish something when you have a finish line! It can be anything, from “getting both feet 4″ off the ground” to “hopping on one leg and not falling down”; heck it can be “not falling after both feet are off the ground”, I don’t judge. I just want you to end the practice jumping for joy!

This course has been rated “awesome!” by skaters and was very well attended the last time it was offered to Derby Lite’rs.  Space is limited, register now!

If you would rather pay by cash or check, please email NYDoll@DerbyLite.org so she can add you to the list and make arrangements to receive your payment at the door.
