We're glad you're here. Members of DERBY LITE Roll Out learn to skate, improve their physical and mental wellness, make new friends and have a lot of fun. Our three step registration process will provide more information, share what to expect, and help you get into the right skates and gear.

What class should you take?

Start Out (beginner/learn-to-skate) is right for you if:

  • You're brand new to roller skating.
  • You haven’t skated in a very long time.
  • You’ve never skated on quad speed skates.
  • You’ve never taken a Derby Lite class before.
  • It's been a while since you exercised regularly.
  • Your fitness is at any level.

Roll Out is right for you if:

  • You've got at least 12 weeks of DL or competitive league experience.
  • You're able to self-regulate & choose your own intensity
  • You want a one hour class.
  • You want to be on skates the entire class.
  • You don't want to work on new skills or fall deliberately.
  • Your fitness level is fair to excellent.

Derby Lite is right for you if:

  • You've got at least 12 weeks of DL or competitive league experience.
  • You want a longer class with more roller derby-esque drills.
  • You’re interested in improving existing skating skills and learning new ones.
  • Your fitness level is fair to excellent.

Beginner/Intermediate Hybrid is right for you if:

  • You fit into the Start Out description above, OR
  • You've got at least 12 weeks of DL or competitive league experience.
  • It’s the only class offered in your location.
  • Your fitness is at any level.

Intermediate is right for you if:

  • You've got at least 12 weeks of DL or competitive league experience.
  • You want a longer class with more roller derby-esque drills.
  • You’re interested in improving existing skating skills and learning new ones.
  • Your fitness level is good to excellent.

Scrimmage is right for you if:

  • You’ve passed DERBY LITE Roll Out Skills Assessment or WFTDA/USARS Minimum Skills.
  • You want to work on scrimmage-specific skills and strategy.
  • You want to play our version of the game: positional & leaning blocking (no hitting, no impact), no stopping on the track, no backwards/reverse/ultra-slow skating, constant forward motion).
  • You’re able to safely and adequately warm up and stretch out on your own.
  • Your fitness level is good to excellent.

According to the super-fast robot monkey on roller skates who checks our database, you haven't registered with us before. The class you've requested requires prior participation in DERBY LITE or at least 12 weeks of competitive roller derby experience. All new members must begin with the ‘Start Out’ (beginner) class, regardless of skating ability. It’s a function of everybody’s safety to learn the form and language of our program. If you haven't skated in a very long time or if you are significantly out of shape, before you register, please go to your local roller rink for an open session to be sure you are able to get up on skates from sitting on the floor (unassisted) and make your way around the rink (unassisted).

These are the minimum requirements for our
Beginner Fitness Skating class.

It's possible the session has already begun so registration is closed or there may not be an active class at your location. Please click OK and choose "Let me know when registration opens for the next session near me."

Because this session starts soon, if you order online today your skates and gear won't be there for your first class, which you do not want to miss. They might be there by the second class. We may have gear you can borrow, but probably not skates. If you miss the first two weeks of class - with skates & gear or not - you may not be allowed to participate.
