FITNESS SKATING CLASSES FOR WOMEN
DERBY LITE Roll Out excercise classes are a fun and effective way for women of all ages and sizes to learn or relearn how to roller skate, and then use those skills in a safe and effective workout that enhances physical, emotional and social well-being.

Even though there’s derby in our name, there is never any hitting or impact in our classes. There is, however, a lot of laughter. And sweat. We’ve taken the skills and drills of competitive women’s roller derby and turned them into a workout like no other.

No experience necessary. Our Certified Instructors can teach even the most nervous non-exercisers how to safely roller skate in our 12-week learn-to-skate class, ‘Start Out’, which is the prerequisite for our Fitness Skating class ‘Roll Out’ and our derby-esque workout, ‘Derby Lite.’

Quad speed skates with appropriate wheels and full protective gear, including dual-certified helmet, elbow & knee pads, full coverage wrist guards and fitted mouth guard are required. Safety first! We offer those items to our members during registration at a great price for the top-of-the-line starter equipment, thanks to special partnerships with Crazy Skates and Triple Eight. It’s easy & convenient, fun & fitness.

‘Start Out’ is a series of 12 weekly one-hour learn-to-skate classes that teach women the language of our program and the basic skills necessary to move on to our other Fitness Skating classes, or to just feel more confident at the roller rink with the kids.   ‘Start Out’ is a prerequisite for all new members who don’t have at least 12 weeks of DERBY LITE or competitive roller derby experience.

‘Roll Out’ classes provide a one-hour High Intensity Interval Training-based exercise class for continuing skaters looking for an on-skates workout that burns up to 1,000 in an hour while building lean muscle and strong hearts with no deliberate falls. This class ZOOMS by and then ends with a blissful stretch sequence.

‘Derby Lite’ is the name of our classic workout based on the skills & drills of competitive women’s roller derby. Continuing skaters learn and improve skating skills and participate in roller derby-style drills in a ninety-minute or two hour class. There is never any hitting in a Derby Lite class.

Women taking DERBY LITE Roll Out classes feel healthier, become stronger and look better – especially in their own eyes. They’re happier. Our members make new friends and have exciting social experiences. For many, it’s the first time in their life they actually look forward to exercising.
